Yes, I game. Not that I want to explore this topic at the moment, but I'm quite frequently amazed by the amount of derision computer gamers receive while the multitudes of brainwashed couch potatoes get nothing but group inclusion for watching upwards of 4 hours of TV a day. It's silly, really. Our culture is (thankfully) at such a point where we have such excess capacity that the majority of our spare time is spent looking for forms of entertainment. I prefer to do something that requires active thinking.

Now Playing...

SE4 CD

Space Empires IV: Of late, I have been sucked into Space Empires 4. Good, old-school turn-based 4X game. I think I had v2 of this... or an older version of Stars! I can't remember which... it would have been back in 1997 or 98 as I remember playing it on NT in my Greenlake apartment. Gawd, I'm old. But remind me to do a rant on the stupidity of the continued usage of Roman numerals.

Oh, but what's the game like? Well, it's a 4X game (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate). Think Civ, MOO, etc. There are three things I like most about the game: highly user configurable (almost totally so), balanced, and you (theoretically) could play for just a few minutes and then get back to whatever you were doing. Unfortunately (or not) I tend to get into a trancelike state of OneMoreTurnitis and I look over and it's 6 AM. But I'm prone to that.

SE4 Screenie
Your typical starsystem/interface pic.

When the school loans came in, that meant it was time to go out and GetSomeGames... only problem was, there is nothing out right now. It's a wasteland. NOLF? Blech. Mechwarrior 4? Nope. Oni? Hahahahah. About the only game I was interested in was Sacrifice, and they were sold out. So, I thought I'd try Reach For the Stars. I uninstalled it the next day. Skittles fared no better. She got Wizards & Warriors... and while it looks promising, she got motion sickness and hasn't touched it in a week. We also got Darkstone, but it has yet to be installed. Drought man, it's a drought i'mtellinya.

Screenshots of Gaming Goodness

The problem for me is, I always forget to take 'em when they're needed. For example, on de_dust in Counterstrike we managed to get a 6-story human pyramid set up. I took 4 screenies (I actually remembered). But now I can't find them. The gods hate me. Well, I'm probably too insignifcant for any notice whatsoever, but it feels better to think someone is out to get you. Just ask Jesus.

My l337itudiness

2Fort CS Office Snowtown Caen Snood
A really old shot of 2Fort. Really old. Check out the ass on that hostage! My heartrate was like 150bpm right there, what being the only one left alive and trying to bring the last hostages home. P.S. the new cs_office sukx! One of my 3 fav maps in DoD 1.0 beta (snowtown). The sewers are mine. Don't even try to go there. Probably my fav map (more for looks than actual gameplay) (caen). I'll do map reviews at some point. TFC Soccer. 'nuff said. Snood! (yeah yeah, bust-a-move)

Ooooh, pretty

Just some random shots of pretty gaming engine sights. Or humorous. Or neither.

Zoomed in Skittles
The DoD Omaha map. DoD Dam. The whole map is this dark. Most of the maps are close to being this dark. Skittles in the Sims. Hubba hubba. She's leading a life of crime, by the way.

Homeworld: my gawd, they've got a beautiful engine. These are all from the original Homeworld. If I ever reinstall Cataclysm (which is even prettier), I'll take some shotties.

Homeworld 03 Homeworld 13 Homeworld 20
One of my kickass Homeworld fleets A brave, tiny Defender. Go little guy go! Buh bye

Not so pretty

My self portrait in Hoyle Casino. Close as I could get in 30 seconds or less. Me in The Sims (though haven't been that skinny in a while)
